Labour Market Information
• Provides information on labour market and educational training opportunities. Services include resource library, documentation center, Internet access, job postings and more.
Professional Resources
• Provides professional services - i.e. counseling, career guidance, resume and cover letter writing, information sessions, job search techniques, tutoring, assessments, etc.
Research & Development
• Develops innovative methods of labour market enhancement for improving education and employment situation within the community.
Training & Development
Vocational Training
• Allows eligible clients to acquire vocational/professional skills that will allow them to enter the labour market.
General Training
• Allows eligible clients to upgrade academic skills to pursue professional training/education programs or to enter the labour market. Programs may include the following benefits for full-time (25 hrs or more/wk) and part-time (less than 25 hrs/wk) students
Tuition
• Academic upgrading, vocational, other career programs will be assessed on an individual basis, may be covered in full for full-time and part-time students.
Student Allowance & Child care
• Full-time students are eligible for weekly allowances (minimum of $168.00 up to a maximum of $263.00). The rates will vary based on number of dependents.
• Full-time students are eligible for Child care allowances for children under the age of 12 years old. The rates will vary based on the age and number of children.
• Full-time students eligible to receive Employment Insurance benefits may receive financial assistance based on current Employment Insurance rate. Part-time students are ineligible for allowances and childcare.
Travel
• Full-time students may be eligible for travel allowance/expenses.
Books, Supplies, Special Equipment
• Full-time reimbursement rate is determined by program requirements, generally there is a maximum of $250.00 per semester for books and supplies; and a maximum of $500.00 per program for special equipment. Part-time reimbursement rate determined by program requirements, generally a maximum of $100.00 per semester.
Workplace Training
• Provides employed clients the opportunity to upgrade skills for their current job in order to remain competitive in the labour market. Organizations/businesses may be eligible for funding to a maximum of 50% and maximum of $1,500/client.
Employability
Job Creation Initiative
Provides employers with the opportunity to assist clients to enter or re-enter the labour market. Allows individuals the opportunity to obtain quality work experience with employers. - Minimum program duration: 26 weeks at 35-40 hours per week. - May be eligible for financial assistance, generally equivalent to minimum wage.
Assistance for the Self-Employed
Provides financial support to clients wanting to start a small business, through training/wage subsidy program, generally equivalent to minimum wage. - Normally funded during the first year of operation. - Clients on Employment Insurance benefits may receive financial assistance based on their current E.I. rate. Youth
Kahnawake Youth Work Experience Program (KYWEP)
Assists youth (15 to 30) to secure employment. Primary clientele are youth who have dropped out of school and youth who have difficulty entering or remaining in the labour market. Offers unemployed youth the opportunity to work in a community service organization or business for supervised work experience, mentoring, support for developing life skills, development of work skills, counseling, career development and training opportunities. - Minimum program duration is 26 weeks to a maximum of 52 weeks.
Employment & Training may provide financial assistance,which is generally equivalent to minimum wage, and all required benefits. (Employment Insurance, 4% vacation pay, Mohawk Self-Insurance). Tewatohnhi’saktha will pay the employer’s share of benefits based exclusively on Employment & Training’s salary contribution.
Kahnawake Summer Student Employment Program (KSSEP)
Designed to prepare eligible students for entry into the labour market and to provide career-related work experience, which should be matched with students’ field of study. Primary clientele are High School, Adult Education, CEGEP, and University students. - Minimum program duration is 6 weeks to a maximum of 10 weeks. - Generally prevailing hourly wage rates are: $8.50 for high school and adult education; $9.50 for CEGEP; $11.00 for 1st year University; $12.00 for 2nd year University.
Rates may vary depending on available funding. Funding to organizations/businesses may include financial assistance based on a 37.5 hour work-week and all required benefits: Employment Insurance; 4% vacation pay; Mohawk Self-Insurance. Tewatohnhi’saktha will pay employer’s share of benefits based exclusively on Employment & Training’s salary contribution.
Kahnawake Part-Time Post Secondary Employment Program (KPTPSEP)
Designed for students enrolled in a full-time, post-secondary academic program. Provides part-time, career-related work experience to compliment their studies. - Program duration is 10 - 12 weeks. - Generally wage rates are $8.50 per hour at 20 hours per week. Rates may vary depending on available funding.
KPTPSEP is modeled closely to KSSEP and is designed for students exceling in their studies, who wish to gain hands-on experiance.
