The KYWEP Program is designed for youth who may be at a crossroads on their career journey. If you are unsure about what you want to do, or are possibly thinking about changing directions on your career path, this program is for you. Similar to our Job Creation Initiative, this program lasts between 26 and 52 weeks and gives you the opportunity to work for a community business or organization. In return, you will receive a supervised work experience, mentoring, support for developing your life and work skills, counseling, and support for career development. Your Employment Counselor is available to meet with you throughout the process to provide support along the way and to assist you in finding the resources that you’ll require along the way.
The goal of this program is to provide you with an opportunity to obtain full-time employment that is fulfilling and long-term, and also can be used as a stepping-stone along your career journey. This program gives you the opportunity to "test the waters" – to learn new skills and gain new experiences that will be helpful in continuing on your career path.

In the summer of 2008, 36 Kahnawake students had the opportunity to take part in the Heads Up pilot program. The primary objective of the program was to get youth to begin to think about career choices and to make wise education choices sooner than later. It was targeted at a sector of the Kahnawake Youth aged 13-17 whom normally do not qualify for the KSSEP.
This program offered the youth the chance to learn life-skills/business skills during the first week of the program. The third week the skills were put into action as real life businesses were operated. How well the students succeeded at the business depended on how well they applied the life-skills/business skills they learned during the first week of the program.
The program also provided fun activities and day trips during the afternoons of week 1 that allowed the youth to have fun and become familiar with one another. They visited local businesses and organizations to get an idea of possible careers in and around the community.
